Organisational Context
The Federal Court of Australia was created by the Federal Court of Australia Act 1976 (Cth) as a superior court of record and a court of law and equity. Its overarching goal is to contribute to the social and economic development and wellbeing of all Australians by applying and upholding the rule of law. It sits in all capital cities and elsewhere in Australia when necessary. The Court has jurisdiction in relation to almost all civil matters and some summary and indictable criminal matters arising under Australian federal law. The Court is able to hear cases in relation to admiralty, bankruptcy, competition, consumer protection, corporations, fair work, human rights, intellectual property and native title. It also has the power to review some Federal Government decisions in areas such as social security, immigration and taxation.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Business Applications Manager, Business Applications Support will lead the team concerned with customer support of the Court’s business applications including but not limited to the following:
• Case Management
• Electronic Lodgment and Filing
• Electronic Court File
• Commonwealth Courts Portal
• Other knowledge management systems

Major Activities
Business Applications Support will be responsible for the following:
1. Ensure customer support services are delivered efficiently and consistently
• Work with IT Service Desk Managers to identify and address Problems with Business Applications
• Ensure Level 2 escalations are managed expeditiously
• Ensure customer communication is clear and timely
• Continuous improvement of level 2 support processes and systems

2. Manage escalations of incidents and problems to support vendor Datacom
• Continuous improvement of level 3 support processes and systems

3. Chair Business Applications subject matter expert (SME) groups
• Capture details of Business Applications system defects
• Solicit feedback on team performance
• Maintain an initiatives list of system defects and enhancements arising from SME groups

4. Oversee development activities to address initiatives list
• Document business requirements
• Work with Business Applications Projects team to develop, test, and release system enhancements to production

Competencies & Attributes
Business Applications Support will lead the team supporting the Courts critical business applications seeking to deliver the best outcome for all Courts and Tribunals within the resources of the Court. A strong understanding of court functions, processes, rules, and legislative environment will be critical. Business Application Support will form part of the leadership group for the business applications team; working within an environment of constrained budgets, competing priorities and high customer expectation.

The Business Application Section, and the Support team in particular, is geographically dispersed experience in managing and working in such teams is essential.

Formal Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, or equivalent vocational experience. Court experience will be highly regarded.

Special Requirements
This position will be required to work outside of normal business hours from time to time. This role will be a point of escalation for service issues and new application deployment projects. Applications deployments are typically conducted on weekends.

Eligibility
Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:
1. Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship;
2. Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check, and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment;
3. Health clearance – the successful applicant may be required to complete a health declaration or attend a medical assessment to confirm their fitness for duty.
